Lighting clear plastic on a white background

So here was a client request.

An item with clear plastic on a white background, a very difficult shot.

So what did we do?

First we lit the background.

Placed an acrylic base in front of it.

Placed the item on the acrylic.

Used black to either side.

Then lit the item from the front.

But here is the clever part.

The shot was taken with the white balance slightly off.

Then we masked the plastic and corrected the background white in photoshop.

So the plastic has a slightly different white coming through it.

A little bit more editing and tidying up and you can see the finished result here:

Be careful taking pictures of Red Buses...

Apparently someone has sued someone else because their images were similar.

The world of licensing can be quite confusing and is often the reason a professional photographer with knowledge of licensing laws should be used.

Be careful where you point your camera!

Soggy Dogs and all that...

It seems a fellow photographer has found a niche photographing "soggy dogs".

At $1,000.00 (Australian) a pop, he seems to be doing quite well.

Not an avenue Business Photography will be pursuing however...
